I Will…
Psalm 34:1-2
Psalm 34 says I will bless the Lord at all times and his praise shall continually be in my mouth. We sing this song in our homes, our cars, and definitely at our churches during Sunday morning worship service.
The passage is A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed. Basically the enemy was coming in on David. David played crazy and it turned King Abimelech away. Pretty smart huh? Well David knew who really turned the enemy away from him, yep God did that and Psalm 34 was his song of praise.
The first two words that stands out to me is "I will," if you look at the definition of will, it means expressing the future tense. David decided that He would not only praise God for the moment that He was rescued but stated that he will praise God in the future. The blessings, the protection, the restoration that WILL take place. David even included at ALL times, so that meant, the failures, the heartaches, the waiting periods and even those uncertain moments of whether He would live or not. That is a big commitment.
We read it, we memorize it, and sing it but do we really mean it? Do we bless his name when we lose a loved one or a job? Or Do we become silent and refuse to pray or sing our praises to the King? Do we continually praise his name while we wait on test results or while He fights a battle as we try to quietly sit still? We gotta remember to praise him past the moment of rescue. Praise his name in the season of reason. You know when God has his reasons for the things that are taking place in your life. Being faithful is hard, this I know but it's even harder with closed lips and a grudging heart to the one person who loves us the most. Our creator, Our waymaker... GOD.
So this my friend is a friendly reminder to praise him at all times. No matter the circumstances, no matter how hard it is. He WILL always be worthy of the praise and the glory. Starting today, We WILL bless the Lord at ALL times.
